My design work ranges in scale from small objects to large pieces of furniture in wood or combinations of wood, metal and ceramics. Joints between components are a primary concern, often celebrated by changes in the wood species used and/or direction of grain. I select my raw materials carefully, making deliberate decisions throughout all stages of my work concerning the precise alignment and orientation of the individual pieces of wood making up a table top or leg, for example. Finishes and their particular effect on wood are also managed carefully, with the use of colour in my work a feature of natural variations between wood species.
